Excerpt:
Meg followed Jones and Eric along the dock. Just before stepping onto the shore, she felt her heart skip a beat. Once she set foot on land, there’d be no going back. For better or worse, at least for the duration of her employment, she’d be stuck here on Gemini Island.
She looked back the way they had come. Orcas Island was no longer visible, and the mainland was miles farther away, as though it belonged to another world, another time. “I’m doing this for you, Aly, my love,” she whispered. Then, taking a deep breath and straightening her shoulders, she stepped onto the island.
Jones led them up a sandy bank to a cluster of motorized golf carts painted blue with white canopies. He loaded their luggage onto the back seat. Meg squeezed into the remaining space, leaving Eric to sit with Jones….
At the far end of the island a tall peak towered above the trees. She leaned forward and pointed. “Jones, is that a mountain over there?”
“Yeah,” Jones said over his shoulder. “That’s where the satellite dish is. We got everything here, TV, telephone, Wi-Fi.”
“Does the mountain have a name?”
“Mt. Gemini, same as the island.”
Meg slumped against the seat. “It’s under Gemini,” Johnny had said. But now there were two Geminis—the mountain and the island itself. Which one had he meant?
