Brooke's Review: School is a Nightmare #3: Shocktober, by Raymond Bean

My 9-year-old daughter, Brooke, loves to read and wants to have a blog of her own one day. She has committed to review one book a week and they will be featured on Fridays. This is book 3 of a 5 book series so there are a few more of these to go!

Justin is a huge fan of Halloween, and it's the first one that his Mom is allowing him to wear a cool costume: a Clone Trooper. Unfortunately, he can't seem to stay out of trouble, and his parents have threatened to keep him home while the other kids go trick-or-treat if he can't get his act together. His teacher took away his recess for the entire month, and he's been grounded every weekend. If that's not bad enough, the rest of the classes at school are busy planning fun parties and activities, and his teacher has him doing research! His troubles started when he accidentally let the class pet, Myrtle the mouse, loose in the classroom. The Myrtle situation created loads of other problems at school and may even ruin what should be the best Halloween ever. Will be able to be able to go trick-or-treating? Can he help find the Myrtle the mouse? Will it be the worst Halloween ever? Find out in the latest installment of the School Is A Nightmare Series, Shocktober!

This book is hard to explain so I’m going to tell what I thought about the book. I love Justin and his family. Justin’s always getting in trouble so that helps me feel better that in some books the kids are not perfect.  Justin is adventurous and is not really afraid to do anything. He takes dares, he plays with snakes, he picks up mice. I like his sisters too. In some ways I’m like them I’m always getting into my brothers business. I get my brother in trouble (not that much but sometimes).

I like his parents too. Sometimes I feel they go over board with the punishment, but in this book I feel he got what he deserved. For all the times he got in trouble. Sometimes it wasn’t all him but I feel the other kids should have got in trouble too. I loved this book and can’t wait to read the next. I love this series and hope that he keeps coming out with more. It was funny and adventurous. There are five books out currently and I’m reviewing them all. Justin loves having fun and it’s hard for him to be in a different class from all his friends.
