Blog Tour/Review: Silver Linings by Kaylee Baldwin

Tour Schedule

Silver Linings by Kaylee Baldwin

Drew Westfall wants nothing more than to forget what he had to do in the name of “smart” business. Cutting off all ties with his parents—including handing over the entire contents of his trust fund to a charity—he takes off for Bridger, Colorado where his best friend has an extra room for him. It doesn’t take long for him to realize that his business degree won’t do him much good in a town as small as Bridger, but he’s broke and has nowhere else to go.

Eden Torresi has every reason to wallow. Not only did she have to sell her house to pay for her mother’s medical expenses, but she also had to drop out of school and is in a relationship with a guy unwilling to commit. But Eden isn’t the wallowing type. Instead, she chooses to spend most of her time taking care of the seniors at Silver Linings Assisted Living. When she learns that her boyfriend’s new roommate is down on his luck, her caring nature makes her want to reach out to him and offer what help she can. But the more time they spend together, the more complicated things get, especially when the seniors of Silver Linings decide to play matchmaker.

I absolutely loved this book!! We briefly met Drew in Home Matters and we learn his story in Silver Linings. When he first arrives in Bridger, Colorado, he has a string of bad luck so when he first meets Eden at the Silver Linings Assisted Living facility, he appears to be homeless. Drew has given away his trust fund and is here to spend some time with his friend, Jace, who happens to be Eden's boyfriend.

There was a lot of humor in this book, which I enjoyed. Drew and Eden had some funny encounters. Then, when the residents of Silver Linings decided they were right for each other, it got even funnier. They kept trapping them places where they would be in close contact and hinting that they were meant to be together. Eden was torn. She loved Jace but they didn't have a lot of passion and would go weeks without really seeing each other and seemed to be fine with that, so how much of a relationship did they really have?

There's an element of this story that was near and dear to me and brought tears to my eyes a few times. Eden's mother, Mary Toressi, is dying and doesn't have much time left. I had a similar situation with my own mother just over seven years ago. I understood Eden's desire to spend as much time as she could with her mother before that was no longer an option. I also fell in love with Drew more because he was willing to take care of Mary and spend time with her. I enjoyed his relationship with her. This brought back a lot of memories for me. There are valuable lessons to learn by spending time with someone at the end of their life. I will always be grateful for the time I got to spend with my mother at the end of her life and wish everyone had that opportunity.

I love this story and I love Drew and Eden! While it was a little sad for Eden and Jace to break up, Mrs. Toressi gave a hint that there's someone else that Jace is in love with. I'm looking forward to Righting a Wrong, where we will get Jace's story!
