Blog Tour/Review: The Spirit of Christmas by Lauraine Henderson

About the Book

George Stone can’t wait for the Christmas season to be over and his employees, especially his executive assistant, Kathryn Gleason, focused once again on their work. When a missing report requires George to stop in at Kathryn’s parents’ home the day before Christmas Eve, he ends up as an unexpected guest. Between the haunting journals of his late grandfather and the unsettling dream of an unhappy future, George is swept away by the magic of Kathryn’s charm and her family’s love.

Will the Spirit of Christmas show George the happiness he’s missing and will Kathryn’s warmth and beauty melt his cold heart?

Review

I enjoyed reading a Christmas romance in May since I tend to read them in November and December. This is a modern-day retelling of "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens. It was fun to recognize the characters that are so familiar. There are some differences, too, which made it interesting to read. I liked the way the author handled the "ghosts."

George is the perfect Scrooge who has no time for relationships. He somehow allowed his assistant, Kathryn, to take a vacation, but she didn't leave a report he felt he needed, so he went to her parents' house to pick it up. Things didn't go as he had planned and he got much more out of that trip than he ever would have imagined.

This was a quick, fun read! I enjoyed the characters and got lost in George and Kathryn's story. It's a timeless message that is good to remember no matter what time of year it is!
