Janie and Burke meet on the set of Family Secrets, a reality cooking show. Janie is a single mother to an adorable 4-year-old son with Down Syndrome. Her ex doesn't want anything to do with them and has moved on, but still manages to give her some grief. Burke is a doctor who lost his wife a couple of years ago. He's on the show to help his teenage daughter since they are still having a hard time coping with her death. Janie and Burke are each determined to win the competition. They are also attracted to each other and their children bring them together.
This was a fun book to read! Janie and Burke's relationship deepened as they spent more time together. The competition was always there between them and they each had a reason to win. With only one winner, though, things could get complicated. They were in different situations but still had challenges with their children. They each had their flaws, too, which made them seem more real.
I loved the cooking show they were on and that it was family recipes--the tried and true kind. The way it played out kept me guessing until the end as to which one of them would win, or if it would even be someone else. This book is a great addition to the Heartwarming line and I enjoyed it from beginning to end! I'm definitely looking forward to reading more!
