In 2014, Candlelight Media Group and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir agreed to collaborate on a feature film (not a documentary) called Singing with Angels. In April of 2015, filming began, and the film has just been completed. It shows the amazing experiences one woman has in the Choir, and the strength she draws from singing that helps her through the struggles she and her family face. Starting in 2016, see her journey and be uplifted by the power of music. Part of the proceeds from the movie will go to the Choir to help in its efforts and mission.
I hadn't heard too much about this movie but loved that music was a focus and that it featured the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I didn't even watch the trailer before I started watching it so I had no idea what it was about. What an amazing movie!!
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir is featured extensively but it's not a documentary. It's a movie about the life of a fictional character, Aubrey, who is part of the choir. It starts in the present day and there are flashbacks that show how she came to be in the choir and other life events which lead her to where she is now. I found Aubrey easy to relate to: she has doubts about her abilities and talent, there are financial strains, she has issues with her mother-in-law, and through it all, she's striving to do her best.
I loved the behind-the-scenes look at being a member of the Tabernacle Choir. We get to see Aubrey's tryout and the process she went through to become a member (it's not easy). There are some rehearsal scenes and they work hard but also have fun together. It also shows how they touch people's lives in amazing ways.
I felt a range of emotions while watching it and laughed and cried several times. You will want tissues handy when you watch this movie. I loved it from beginning to end and highly recommend it to everyone!
